Kitchen & Cutting Boards
Every board here comes from a small woodworking shop. workboots&glasses in Sacramento sells D'ondra's 1"-thick walnut, maple and cherry boards, and HARZO in Danville, Kentucky, builds end-grain butcher blocks from Southern Yellow Pine. To keep either one in shape, Refine Kitchenware in Minster, Ohio, makes a board wax with organic beeswax and coconut oil.
About Kitchen & Cutting Boards
What makes an end-grain board different?
On an end-grain board, like HARZO's butcher blocks, the wood fibers stand upright. They absorb the knife's impact, which is easier on blades and helps the surface resist deep cuts.
Can wooden boards go in the dishwasher?
No. workboots&glasses and HARZO both call for hand washing with mild soap and warm water, then drying the board thoroughly.
How do I keep a board from drying out?
Condition it regularly. Refine Kitchenware recommends rubbing in its wax after each use for best results.
