This is a proper end-grain butcher block, built one at a time in Danville, Kentucky from Southern Yellow Pine. The blocks are laid out in a checker pattern that shows off the pine's growth rings and golden color, and the joinery is tight with smooth edges.
End grain means the wood fibers stand upright. Your knife edge slips between the fibers instead of cutting across them, which is easier on blades and helps the surface resist deep scoring. At 1 3/4" thick, it is a heavy, stable board for daily prep and serving.

About the maker
HARZO Handcrafted is a small woodworking shop in Danville, Kentucky, where each board is cut, glued up and finished individually.
Why choose end grain?
The upright fibers absorb the knife's impact, so blades stay sharper and the board resists deep cuts better than a face-grain board.
Should I get feet or a juice groove?
Rubber feet lift the board and keep it from sliding on the counter. A juice groove catches liquid from meat and fruit. Leave both off if you want a flat block you can flip and use on either side.
